Nexus 4 v. Galaxy S3
« on: December 02, 2012, 01:54:54 PM »
Although I thought the S3 was an excellent phone, I'm seeing quite a lot of lag recently and thought about changing it for a Nexus 4.

Anyone any experience of both S3 and Nexus 4 please? I know Nexus 4s are a bit scarce at the moment.

TIA.

Hey CBers,

I don't have experience of the S3 but I can honestly say that Samsung are notorious for the bloatware on their devices, no they aren't as bad as HTC but their devices are prone to lag because of bloatware.
My S2 has always been a better performer when running CM9/10 than stock Touchwiz ICS or Gingerbread for that matter, Touchwiz is another culprit when it comes to lag...
I'm not knocking the S3, it is a great phone. The camera on the Nexus 4 isn't reportedly as good as the S3 and then there's storage, a 16GB S3 with up to a 64GB SD Card is allot of storage so you need to consider whether you can manage with a 16GB phone?
I've already moved more of my contents to the cloud, pictures are in Dropbox and my Music is now on Play Music so I'm trying to get use to less storage, hardly used any storage on my S2 but my SD has about 7-8GB on so I think I need to try harder...lol

I'm worried about rooting my S3 as it will invalidate the warranty and it's already been in for 1 repair.

Might get a Nexus 4 and then reset S3 and sell on eBay :-)

Storage on phone isn't an issue as I also use Google Music and can always have a cut down collection locally.

I also use DropBox, so as you say, pictures aren't a problem either, plus they get copied from my DropBox account straight to my server at home ;)

Would be nice to have a full set of the new generation of Nexus devices 8)

Samsung phones can easily be returned to stock, CF-Root is the easiest way to root an S3. Just flash the kernel with Odin, that's how I rooted my S2...

Back on topic...it sounds to me like you've already decided...  ;-)

Just installed Nexus4StockAlert to keep me informed when it's back in stock.
