Nexus 4 General Discussion / How well does MMS work for you??
« on: October 20, 2013, 02:43:35 PM »
I've spent so much time with Tmo trying to get MMS to work that I finally gave up.  It wasn't the best signal here to my pad anyway...

So now I've signed on with Redpocket which uses the AT&T network which gives me a *much* better sig then I had with Tmo.  But, the problem remains; whenever I try to send an MMS like a small pic, it just hangs.  It sure seems like this is device specific and not the fault of the carrier.

I'm wondering if anyone else has trouble sending MMS...

Nexus 4 Android OS / 4.3 OTA Looks Good
« on: July 31, 2013, 09:08:38 AM »
The update went smoothly here.  Only one little Andy Android in the place of one of my apps, I guess, but I have no idea what used to be in it's place.  All else seems to be working well!

Nexus 4 General Discussion / Other carriers than Tmo??
« on: June 11, 2013, 08:34:57 AM »
I'm wondering what other carriers I can use my N4 with.  My T-Mobile coverage in our small coastal town of Morro Bay is the pits!  Just about unusable for data anywhere around here.  Anyone around the central coast of California that has decent coverage?  Which carrier do you use? Thanks,

Nexus 4 General Discussion / Transfering MP3 for a ringtone?
« on: May 11, 2013, 02:04:23 PM »
So I have a couple MP3s here on my PC that I'd like to take a snippit of and make a ring tone, and maybe use that ring tone for a specific contact.  So my question is do you have any reccomendations for an app that will help me make ring tones from MP3s?

Thanks for your ideas,

ringin' radio

*update:  OK, I just answered my own question ~  I tried Ringdroid; a cool open source ringtone app that worked like a charm! So, nevermind....

I dig having Android 4.2.2 but it's not got it's hazards... That is, I've tried several apps that just don't work.  After emailing the programmers it appears that they have yet to 'catch up' with the newest versions of Android.  So although I like being up to date, it's not always the best version for all apps out there... Frustrating! Google makes some incremental changes and now all the programmers have to re-write code to catch up.  We'll see how long it takes 4.2.2 to be more 'universal'...

Nexus 4 Apps / Any good translation app?
« on: April 13, 2013, 09:18:13 AM »
We're going to Puerto Vallarta for a little week-long vacation and I wanted a little phone translator app.  My gf Jean knows some Spanish but I'm still learning...  I paid for and downloaded a thing called SkyCode Translate but unfortunately, it always just says, "Unfortunately, Sky Code Translate has stopped"... how unfortunate!  So I'm busy emailing the developer but I'm wondering if anyone has a Spanish/English type app that they like.  'Twould be nice if it will run without a 3g/wifi sig as well.  Thanks for any tips!

The Lounge: Off Topic Forum / Using my N4 down south?
« on: April 03, 2013, 09:00:39 AM »
So we're all signed up to take a little week-long vacation to Puerto Vallarta in a few weeks.  We usually bring our bikes (http://www.crazyguyonabike.com/radiocycle) but this time it's just biped express...
Anyways, has anyone tried any of the SIM cards that you can buy on line?  There seem to be a few places that sell them on line or, I can look for one down there where I think it's mostly iphony territory. It seems there are about three main carriers there and Telcel and Movistar operate on a GSM-network.
I don't think I need to do much calling locally, but would be good to call back here to the states a few times and maybe calling around a little bit looking for lodging once we're there.  Anyone have any experience with using a cell in good 'ol Mexico??

Nexus 4 Help / My Camer Flash Is Stuck In the OFF Position
« on: February 15, 2013, 10:52:47 PM »
Anyone know why the flash on my camera is grayed out.  It's not that I'm using HDR, where I read it disables the flash and white balance.  I went to take a shot tonight and no flash and it can't be turned on  >:(   ... was working a couple of weeks ago.  And I know the LED will work because I have TeslaLED and it turns it on, no problem.  Why won't my camdamera turn it on???

Nexus 4 General Discussion / How do I get it to pipe down??
« on: February 15, 2013, 10:21:05 AM »
This thing keeps yakking at me now & then...   Yet I go into "Text-to-speech output" and there is only one radio button and it's ticked; can't un-tick it.  It has a settings page but those settings are only for language type etc. not turning it off completely.   I'm only assuming this is where I would try to turn off the woman's voice that starts squawking at me at times....

Any idears??

Nexus 4 General Discussion / What's with the flashing lights??
« on: February 03, 2013, 11:55:14 AM »
Now and then when my phone is 'asleep' I have this little, slowly flashing, LED at the bottom of the screen.  Most times it's blue but sometimes, like at the moment, it's purple.  What's the significance of that flashing light?  Anyone know??

Nexus 4 Apps / VOIP app?
« on: January 29, 2013, 12:15:15 PM »
I have another question...  Any of you N4 users that use a call over the web type app on your phone?  When I look at the manual, it says that 'this feature is not supported' or something like that.  Trouble is, with my T-Mobile account, I have crappy signal strength here at the house.  But I have excellent high-speed cable Internet and if I could use the phone through that I'd be in fat city!  Any suggestions??

Nexus 4 Apps / Help with Ringdroid?
« on: January 29, 2013, 11:37:52 AM »
Anyone out there familiar with the app Ringdroid?  It sounded like a cool app so I downloaded from GP.  It comes with a long list of ringtones, but when I try to listen to any of them it always says, "Sorry, Ringdroid is not yet able to edit files of the type ogg".  Then when I say "OK", it says, "Unfortunately, Ringdroid has stopped."  Rather peculiar behavior don't you think?  Maybe I should uninstall and download it again??  I haven't read a lot about it but it just doesn't sound like it's working like it should.

Nexus 4 General Discussion / No UMA for N4
« on: January 05, 2013, 01:12:53 PM »
The T-Mobile $30 a month plan with unlimited text and data is a really good way to go IMO but... I do wish that the N4 had the option of using UMA.  I read that it would not use up plan minutes and could work internationaly(!).  Would love to be able to call back to the states from Mexico for next to nothing when we do some of our cycle touring down there and in other places round the world.  I'll have to look into buying a sim card for Mx; not cheap I don't think...
