Nexus 4 Crashes/Radio disfunction
« on: March 29, 2013, 04:45:47 PM »
Hi,

I'm Sander from Belgium, my native language is Dutch so my English is not that good, apologies for that.
I bought my Nexus 4 on the last saturday (the 23th). So I have it for about a week now.
When everything works then this device is just amazing. But I got some huge problems.

I get random crashes, while typing, opening a text message, just a random crash and I have to reboot the phone. This happens almost continuously (like 30 times a day). When the phone doesn't crash, my radio doesn't work. So I can't send text messages or make calls/receive them. It also poppes op the screen where I have to give my PIN number to unlock my SIM card. That can happen every 5 minutes.

Sometimes when I reboot my phone, it goes in a loop. First the Google logo shows up, then the Nexus one, then it should be ready but instead it shows the google logo again, and then the nexus logo, and so forth.

I run everything stock. I just updated it to android 4.2.2
I think its a production error. I hope somebody is able to help me.

Thank you for taking the time to read this,

Sander

Firstly Zander I'm impressed with your English, very good.

This could be a software issue or rogue application so I would first recommend a factory data reset, it's a pain but as you've only had your device a week you shouldn't have too much on there to loose.
Backup anything you want to keep first, photos, downloads, contacts unless synced et cetera and then factory data reset.

Settings> Back up & reset> Factory data reset...

Try running the phone for a few days without any apps and see if this behaviour continues, if it does then you'll need to contact where you bought the device grim for a repair or warranty claim.

Let us know how you get on please.

EDIT- You could also try booting into safe mode, this will boot your device without any 3rd party applications and could be tried before a factory data reset to see if any rogue applications could be the cause.

Long-press power for menu> Long-press Power off and option will appear asking if you want to reboot to safe mode.

Failing this I would then try the factory data reset before contacting your point of sale.

Thank you :)

Well I already did the factory reset, and nothing has changed. It keeps crashing and my radio doesn't function properly.
I tried to boot to safe mode also, but It doesn't want to do that. When I hit the 'Boot in Safe Mode' an android logo pops up with the text 'no task' so that feature isn't included in the software I think.

I will contact the store where I bought it from but its gonna be a pain in the ass tho. --'

I went to Germany to buy the phone in a store, because the nexus isn't available in Belgium, so I have the language problem (I don't speak German at all) and the distance problem.

Anyway, thank you for replying.

Sander

I'm sorry to hear that mate, could you contact them first by email or something?

How technically minded are you because you could flash the factory image, that would determine whether it is a software problem. I personally am inclined to think it's a hardware issue but if you fancy trying flashing the factory image it would rule out one more possibility and if it did fix the problem would save you the hassle of exchanging the phone.

Happy to guide you through the process.

Well, I am not that technically minded.
Its a good idea to flash the factory image,
If you could show me a 1 by 1 step of how to do it , I would be pleazed to do it :)

Well if it turns out to be a hardwar issue then I got some proof also.

Thank you.

Firstly you need to get the Nexus Root Toolkit on your PC, this link is to the XDA thread and so download the toolkit from the link there and get the drivers installed.

Let me know if you need anymore help.
