There's been allot of speculation in the net for the last few months regarding a new device from Google, it just that though, speculation and rumour.
Google own Motorola Mobility and when Motorola was acquired, Motorola already had an 18 month roadmap so Google needed to let that road mad run it's course. Now that time is up so people are speculating that Google and Motorola will bring a new device out this year.
There's a very good change they will, speculation has the device ranging from a midrange device for a couple hundred dollars to a high end flagship device and it's been dubbed the X-Phone or Nexus X but again this is all speculation.

There's also rumour of a new LG Nexus device, possibly the Nexus 5 but I doubt we'll see that at Google I/O in May. I do think we'll see an updated Nexus 7 and Android 5.0 at I/O though.

Whether they do or they don't, your Nexus 4 is far from out of date and will received Android 5.0 or Key Lime Pie when it is released later this year. Typically a Nexus device will receive updates for about 18 months, maybe longer, so you have little to worry about unless you have to have the latest and greatest phone. If this is the case then owning the Nexus 4 is the best bet because your not tied into a contract and can sell the phone at any time to upgrade to the next best thing.

Personally, I'm not holding my breathe for the X-Phone but only time will tell.

Google will come out with a new phone and they will always be coming out with a new phone. What's nice about you buying a nexus though is that you will get the next update and you will vet it almost immediately.

I think at Google I/O we will see an all new nexus line up with the N7 coming out in July,  N10 in august or September, and the next phone at the end the year.
