Battery and t mobile issues finally solved.
« on: February 11, 2013, 10:42:20 AM »
To fix my battery life and get 5 and a half hours screen time with games and streaming ( over 23 hours on stock) I disabled currents, Google wallet, basically any app that runs in that background like e mail sync, Google +, etc. I was inside all day so I used a low brightness. I used Wi-Fi instead of 3g. That's basically all you can do besides having a system monitor. As for the t mobile $30 prepaid plan... Sigh. I was dumb and thought I could activate that plan in store, but the reps said it doesn't exist so I left cause I was going to fight. I ordered over night shipping  micro sim and activated the plan online to avoid trying to get sold something dumb over the phone. You have an option to transfer your number right there, but for me I did it Friday night and it got activated Monday at 2 am porting from virgin mobile. Take note that if you choose the transfer your number option you cannot make a payment until your number ports. ( I was pissed for a whole hour cause I got ' no auto pay date selected '). The last issue I had was my data didn't work but restarted the phone and bam it worked. It was very stressful but 33.04 for a phone bill has never been sweeter. Hope this post helped someone.

Great post bassbonemexie, nice to see others contributing to the forums.

One thing though, I couldn't live without my Gmail syncing, emails polling and my other things that are synced.... :-\

Could you just turn auto sync off?

I've got use to poor battery life on a droid device with the phone running as I want it, the Nexus 4 is no worse than my last two droid devices.
I have Wi-Fi, GPS & Bluetooth off unless I'm using them. I don't use Google Calendar so that is unchecked from the Google sync options, as are Google photos and instant uploads. All other sync is turned on and I poll one email account every half hour and the other three every hour...

Yes I wish my battery did last longer but it's a smartphone and I want it to be smart...

Actually I left my email sync on, however I changed the frequency to thirty minutes to avoid excessive use of battery when its sitting my pocket.

I've been going back and forth whether or not I should root to install a custom kernel in hopes I could extend that battery even more, but I'm a pansy especially since this phone still had many updates to go through.

I have a theory, I don't think the N4 has a true 2100mah battery. It doesn't hold a charge as long as my gnex did with a 2000mah battery, but it seems to charge much faster which makes me think its actually smaller. What's up with that?

Jay, how do you set the 'polling frequency' on Gmail?

Sorry radio, was referring to the stock email client not Gmail. Gmail can only push or sync mail not poll... unless you turn Gmail sync off and add your Gmail account to the stock email client...

The galaxy nexus is dual core right? It would make sense that a quad core phone would take more battery. I can't really explain the faster charging as everyone's phone slightly varies in battery performance
